Moonlight Memories, 2020

I got to thinking about how the moon creates no light of its own but is a reflection of the sun's light. By the time we see light in space it is a reflection of what was, just like memories. A cyanotype involves using sunlight to capture a blueprint like image, in this case on cloth. This textile piece is made of 12 cyanotype cotton squares, and black cotton fabric. Each square is a photograph of a different native Californian bee plus one honey bee.  The whole process was very time consuming but helped me create both personal and public memories of these tiny beings.
